A few days ago, we came together to honour a momentous occasion—Polish Independence Day, a day that marks the resilience, courage, and unwavering spirit of the Polish people. On November 11, 1918, after 123 years of foreign occupation, Poland regained its place on the map of Europe. This year’s celebration was made even more special by the presence of distinguished guests, including: Deputy Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa, Councillor Ruggy Singh Mayor of Warwick, Councillor Dave Skinner MP Matt Western Deputy Lieutenant for Warwickshire, David Kelham Deputy Leader of Warwick District Council, Councillor Christopher KingPortfolio Holder for Transport & Planning at Warwickshire County Council Councillor Jan Matecki Councillors: Sarah Boad, Alan Boad, Will Roberts, Bill Gifford, Andrew Day, Sidney Syson, Adrian Barton We were also joined by representatives from the Organisation of Ukrainian Women in Coventry, Rotary Club of Warwick and the Cotswolds, Kenilworth Lions, Leamington History Group, St. Mary Magdalene Church, Leamington Music, and the Ukrainian Medical Charity. Music and Heritage The evening featured a stunning concert by the Cwizewicz Brothers, sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute, and the “Fathers of Independence” exhibition from the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw.
Together, they reminded us of the rich cultural heritage and resilience that define the Polish spirit. As we look back on this inspiring celebration, let us remember the sacrifices of the past and continue building a compassionate, united future—both here in Leamington Spa and beyond.
